Custom Entertainment area
When our Houston client reached out, their vision was clear: transform a plain, lifeless wall into the centerpiece of their home. They wanted a warm, inviting focal point that reflected both modern design and functional living. Beyond aesthetics, the client needed a fully integrated home theater with no visible wires, plus ambient LED lighting to brighten what was otherwise a dark space. Our goal was to merge design, craftsmanship, and technology into one seamless feature.
Collaborative Design Approach
From day one, this project was built on collaboration. Every step of the way, we worked closely with the client to refine details like the ideal placement of vertical LED strips, the background panel behind the TV, and the floating shelves that flank the centerpiece. Because TV size was an important factor, we designed the proportions of the wall with flexibility in mind. For the background, the client selected a Wilsonart laminate panel resembling a marble slab, giving the space a touch of elegance without overpowering the warm tones of the wood.
Premium Materials & Finishes
Materials played a huge role in bringing this vision to life. The client requested real Jewel Mahogany wood, finished in a flat satin clear coat to highlight the rich, natural wood grain. To balance this warmth, the surrounding cabinetry and floating shelves were painted in crisp white. Each shelf was detailed with mahogany wood trim along the front and sides, a small touch that elevated the craftsmanship. The combination of dark wood tones, bright white surfaces, and subtle marble texture created a design that feels both modern and timeless.
Smart Lighting Integration
One of the standout features of this entertainment center is the color-changing LED lighting system. Installed vertically along the left panel, beneath each floating shelf, and around the TV background, the lighting adds depth, contrast, and atmosphere. We also integrated LEDs into the vertical ornament cabinet, which doubles as both storage and display. The client can now easily shift the mood of the space — from a cozy movie night to vibrant entertaining — with just the touch of a button.
Challenges and Solutions
This project wasn’t without challenges. The oversized TV created limitations for the background marble panel, requiring careful alignment to maintain balance and symmetry. The integration of multiple systems — home theater equipment, cable management, and LED controls — meant that wiring needed to be hidden but still serviceable. We developed a custom cable management system behind the console and within the cabinetry, ensuring no wires were visible while maintaining easy access for future upgrades.
Build Process & Timeline
The remodel took about four weeks, from initial concept to the final installation. The client was able to watch the project unfold in stages, including:
1. The before phase, where the plain wall had little character.
2. Slat panel installation, establishing warmth and vertical design lines.
3. TV console and cabinetry installation, providing structure and storage.
4. Marble background panel installation, LED lighting and completing the focal point with elegance.
Results & Client Feedback
The finished entertainment center not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations. The once blank wall is now a functional showpiece that seamlessly integrates a theater system, fireplace, ambient lighting, and stylish storage. Guests immediately notice the “wow factor” of the illuminated design, while the client enjoys a space that feels both cozy and high-end.
